Restoration of the marble floor "a commesso" in the Church of San Pantalon

UNISVE, among the numerous intervention on the Church, worked on the conservative restoration of the marvelous marble floor “a commesso” (marquetry) in the Chapel of San Pantalon, highly damaged by humidity and by the consequent saline efflorescences causing marble sections disintegration.

Some fragments were lost, causing some gaps and the consequent decohesion problems and detachment of marble elements of adjacent sections.

The restoration concerned the beautiful marbles (red Verona, white Carrara, yellow mori, etc..) whose detached fragments were recovered and catalogated. Then was carried out the cleaning process on the base of the fault sections with mortar made with cocciopesto, followed by fragments repositioning. Finally joints and little lacks were grouted using a blend of aged lime-putty, marble powder and pigments; and the surface were protected with microcrystalline polish.

This is the third and last video showing UNISVE intervention. The restoration was financed by Save Venice Inc. On UNISVE – Conservazione e Restauro YouTube page you can find the full video showing the intervention in all its steps.
